Description
What educator and homeschool family doesn’t love Eric Carle’s award-winning books and illustrations?
Among some of these books are including: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? and more!
These lovely books are written for children that are younger, but even older kids and parents enjoy them!
Aren’t Eric Carle pictures in his picture books just amazing? I especially love the Eric Carle sun in the Hungry Caterpillar book.
He writes the clever stories, but he also makes all of the illustrations in his books.
My kids love reading these books. When they were younger, our home library was filled with Eric Carle picture and board books!
If your kids know the alphabet and are ready to start reading, use these books to introduce some vocabulary words.
Throughout all of his years as an author and illustrator, Eric Carle has developed some very unique and iconic Art style that makes his illustrations very memorable.
We read these books with our children and students because they have so much to offer, both the literature and the artwork.
Get your kids excited about these books with an Art tutorial that is perfect for kids!
This series of 5 Art tutorials will focus on an amazing artist study (Eric Carle) and Art lessons, so it can be used with children older than the normal range for reading the picture books.
It would also make a fun art lesson for multiple ages using Eric Carle’s iconic art techniques.
Children will learn the very unique and easy-to-spot Eric Carle texture on the backgrounds and characters.
They will also learn to paint like Eric Carle using everyday items!
This 5-part tutorial includes on lesson for each day.
I suggest that one lesson be done per day because it will give the paintings dry well before adding the layers and the additional details to the background.
On day 1, children will learn to make Color Wash and Splash Textures, Eric Carle style.
This is great because it will give children a beautiful background that will end up being a beautiful work of Art, or a masterpiece, by day 5!
On Day 2, children will be going in-depth into several Brush & Scratch Textures that Eric Carle has used in his picture books.
These brush and scratch textures are awesome because they look so intricate, but in reality, they are made with items that you already have at home!
Day 3 will be going into a great lesson on making beautiful Insect Wings and Body Textures.
This is going to begin giving our masterpiece some shape, in terms of what it will begin looking like by day 5.
On Day 4, the children are going to build on that same artwork, but in this lesson, they will be learning Blotting Textures.
These textures give the masterpiece depth and add more interest over a boring 2D painting.
And finally, on day 5, we will be looking at the details for our Project Completion. We will be closing this 5-lesson Art unit with a great final product.
This step-by-step series will make it really easy for you and your kids!
I can’t wait for you to try it!
